Most desk pens have accepted their role in life: vanish beneath a notepad, leak in a drawer, and reappear only when someone needs a signature immediately. The Novium Hoverpen Interstellar has rejected that humble destiny. It sits on a magnetic pedestal at a 23.5-degree angle, suspended without electricity, batteries, wires, or the faintest interest in blending in.

We think that is precisely the point. This is a real ballpoint pen, built from a single piece of aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum, but its job description clearly includes “make the desk look like a mid-budget spaceship cockpit.” The standard Space Black version keeps the premise relatively restrained: aluminum, anodized black finish, zinc-alloy pedestal, no gold or meteorite additions.

There is a genuine bit of sensible design under the spectacle. It takes international-standard D1 ballpoint refills, includes an extra D1 Schmidt refill, and comes with a pincer tool for removing the ink cartridge. That matters because novelty desk objects often become expensive paperweights the moment a proprietary refill disappears into the void.

Still, we would not pretend this is a rational response to the global pen shortage, which has not occurred. The Hoverpen Interstellar is for the person whose workspace needs one carefully chosen absurdity: something that can sit beside a monitor, invite a double take, and remain capable of writing down the password someone has inevitably forgotten again.
