The Withings BeamO exists for the sort of household that has a thermometer somewhere, an oximeter somewhere else, and no idea where either has gone when somebody starts feeling rough after dinner. Modern family care has acquired the organisational charm of a cable drawer; BeamO’s appeal is that it gathers several relevant checks into one slim device instead of asking the medicine cupboard to become a branch of A&E.

This is a 4-in-1 health monitor with a contactless thermometer, digital stethoscope, 1-lead ECG and pulse oximeter. Withings identifies it as model SCT02, and the listed dimensions are 3.7 x 1.9 x 13.6 cm at approximately 80 g. That is pleasantly restrained for something carrying four separate functions. The stainless-steel electrodes, polycarbonate body and silicone membrane also suggest a device designed as an object rather than an apologetic bundle of plastic accessories.

We think BeamO is compelling because its feature list has a rare household logic. Temperature and blood-oxygen readings are familiar territory; adding ECG and auscultation tools makes it a more ambitious piece of family kit without requiring four separate devices to be charged, stored and rediscovered during a rushed morning. The selected UK listing also identifies it for children and adults and as multi-user, which is exactly the point: this is shared cupboard infrastructure, not another personal gadget demanding its own special drawer.

There is still a sensible limit to the admiration. BeamO cannot be used while charging, so a flat battery at the wrong moment remains a distinctly unglamorous possibility. Yet the specified battery life is up to eight months per charge and USB-C charging takes one hour, which makes regular charging far less theatrical than it has any right to be. For families who genuinely want one broad, compact health monitor, this is a notably coherent bit of preparedness.

The ordinary water filter jug has spent decades doing its duty in the fridge: removing things from tap water while looking vaguely like it came free with a student tenancy. LARQ’s PureVis takes that familiar object and gives it a plant-based Nano Zero filter, UV-C purification and smart hydration tracking. Naturally, drinking a glass of water has become a modest systems-management exercise.

We think that escalation earns its place when the kitchen already leans towards useful gadgets rather than decorative clutter. The genuinely interesting bit is the two-step arrangement: filtration through the Nano Zero filter, plus PureVis UV-C purification. PureVis activates while the jug is filled, although it may take up to five seconds to do so, and the λ button provides a manual route when a button press feels emotionally necessary.

There is a practical footnote, because smart things always demand one. The wand must come out before dishwasher cleaning and then be hand-washed; the lid, hopper and filter lid can go on the top rack. That is not catastrophic faff, but it does mean this is a considered kitchen gadget rather than a carefree plastic jug you fling into the machine after a busy Tuesday.

There is, naturally, a tax for this degree of tidiness: the Nest V2 measures 240 x 120 x 50 mm, with a 36 mm internal height. This is a compact organiser only in the grown-up sense of “small enough to pack intentionally”, not the magical sense of “takes up no room whatsoever”. For people already carrying everyday tech, though, we think its configured, single-case approach earns the space.

There is a particular sort of desk clutter that claims to be inspirational while mainly collecting dust: the motivational postcard, the ceramic slogan mug, the plant one colleague keeps quietly resuscitating.
