The Withings BeamO exists because the average home health drawer is a depressing archaeological dig: a thermometer with a missing cap, a pulse oximeter nobody remembers charging, and paperwork from a device that apparently needed its own legal department. BeamO puts a contactless thermometer, pulse oximeter, 1-lead ECG, and digital stethoscope into one handheld unit. We think that is a rare case of consolidation that does not sound like a management-consultant slide deck.

At 3.7 x 1.9 x 13.6 cm and 80 g, it is designed to take up far less room than the collection it is trying to replace. The 1.9-inch color display keeps the device self-contained at the moment you are dealing with a restless child, a worried parent, or your own late-night urge to inspect every bodily noise after reading the internet.

There is sensible restraint behind the gadgetry. Withings says the digital stethoscope records and shares heart and lung sounds with a healthcare professional; it is not a standalone diagnostic, treatment, or monitoring tool. That boundary matters. BeamO is appealing because it organizes information and makes it easier to pass along, not because it turns the kitchen counter into an emergency room.

The U.S. ECG setup is the bit that spoils the otherwise elegant little fantasy. ECG activation requires a valid U.S. phone number and state of residence, and the first recording goes to a board-certified cardiologist through Heartbeat Health before continued use is enabled. Also, U.S. ECG recordings appear in the Withings Android and iOS apps, not the Web Dashboard. BeamO is compelling household tech, but it does insist on a little bureaucratic choreography before it lets the heart feature join the party.
