The modern desk has a terrible habit of turning every quiet thought into an app notification, a calendar alert, or a browser tab named something helpful like “FINAL_final_v7.” The reMarkable 2 exists for people who want digital paper without inviting the entire internet to sit beside them and chew loudly.

Its hardware brief is conspicuously restrained: a 10.3-inch monochrome digital paper display, multi-point touch, 8 GB of storage, Wi-Fi, and USB-C charging. That may sound almost aggressively unflashy beside a conventional tablet. We think that restraint is the appeal, particularly for anyone whose usual paper pile has developed its own municipal zoning laws.
