Editorial take
Why we picked it
Water filter jugs are usually the most uninspiring thing in your kitchen - a sad plastic lump you tolerate because London water tastes like it's had a long day. They sit there quietly, doing their job, looking vaguely apologetic for existing. This one, however, has clearly been to design school, got itself a personality, and decided it's not here to be ignored.
The LARQ doesn't just filter water - it zaps it with UV light like it's on a mission, and then politely keeps tabs on how much you're drinking like a slightly judgemental personal trainer who never actually raises their voice.
It's over-engineered in the best possible way. Do you need smart hydration tracking? Absolutely not. Will you suddenly care more about drinking water because of it? Annoyingly, yes. There's something about seeing the data that makes you feel accountable in a way a normal jug never could.
And then there's the design. It actually looks like it belongs on a countertop, rather than something you'd hide behind the kettle when guests come over. Which, for a water jug, is frankly a bit of a win.
Detailed verdict
The full review
The Irresistible
- UV purification is properly next-level - feels cleaner, because it is.
- Looks good on a countertop - which is rare for anything "hydration" related.
The Clever Part
- Tracks your intake automatically - no more pretending you drank 2 litres today.
- Smart reminders actually helpful - subtle nudges, not nagging.
The Fine Print
- Needs charging, which feels odd for a jug.
- Replacement filters aren't exactly forgettable.
The Reality Check
- You'll start judging other people's tap water habits.
