The Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones exists for a very modern housekeeping nuisance: the hard-floor tumbleweed made of long hair, crumbs, and whatever escaped breakfast while everybody was late. A normal vacuum cleaner head can turn that into a tiny maintenance ritual involving scissors and regret. Dyson’s answer is four conical brush bars intended to lift and strip long hair so it can be vacuumed without tangling.

We think that is a suitably specific bit of household engineering. The PencilVac is a cordless vacuum cleaner explicitly made for hard floors, with a remarkably narrow 1.5-inch listed width and a supplied rotating combi-crevice tool for the awkward strip between furniture and wall where dust apparently pays rent.

There is no attempt to pretend this is the universal household vacuum. Dyson says it does not clean carpets. That limitation is less a footnote than a large sign over the door: this belongs in a hard-floor home, apartment, or cleaning setup where rugs are minor characters rather than the entire cast.

The stated maximum runtime is up to 30 minutes, and charging takes 3.5 hours. That makes the Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones most convincing as a regular cleanup machine rather than the thing you summon after delaying chores for three weekends. The click-in battery can be removed without screws, and extra batteries can extend runtime, which gives the system a little more ambition than its slim outline suggests.
