Most cameras ask to be carried, aimed and generally treated like minor members of the household. The Insta360 GO 3S 64GB takes a more cunning route: the camera itself weighs approximately 39.1g and measures 25.6 × 54.4 × 24.8mm, so it is built for footage from the middle of whatever you were already doing.

That makes rather good sense for travel, walks, bike rides and small family expeditions where producing a large camera tends to make everybody suddenly aware that they are being filmed. The standard bundle includes a Magnet Pendant, Pivot Stand and Easy Clip, giving the small camera a practical route to hands-free POV recording rather than leaving it marooned in a pocket.

There is actual recording substance behind the tiny-camera novelty. The GO 3S captures standard video up to 4K at 24, 25 or 30fps, with 2.7K and 1080p options reaching 50fps. Footage is recorded as MP4 using H.264, with a maximum bitrate of 120Mbps. We think that is the crucial distinction: this is not merely a charming little surveillance tic for your coat lapel.

The Action Pod supplies a screen, power and remote control when the camera is removed, with live preview at up to approximately 5m. It also makes the package less tiny, naturally, because physics remains tediously involved. Still, for people who want to capture the day without turning it into a production meeting, the GO 3S is an unusually persuasive bit of modern faff reduction.

A conventional mouse is one of those objects people tolerate with the grim patience normally reserved for a wobbly kitchen chair. It sits on the desk all day, quietly demanding thousands of tiny movements, then gets shoved into a laptop bag with a charging cable, three receipts and a biscuit crumb of uncertain origin. The Logitech Lift Vertical Ergonomic Mouse exists for people ready to make that arrangement a little less ordinary.

Its central proposition is admirably specific: a wireless vertical ergonomic mouse, rather than another standard black pebble for the desk. There is, naturally, a limit to the ambition. Four buttons keep the arrangement fairly straightforward, which will suit plenty of people but may look sparse to anyone accustomed to assigning shortcuts to every available thumb movement. The Lift is not trying to be a cockpit. It is a vertical mouse with a restrained control layout, quiet clicks and sensible connection choices; a rare case of office equipment addressing modern desk clutter without adding another app-shaped obligation.

Wallet trackers exist because adults are apparently expected to keep track of a wallet, a phone, a passport and a luggage tag while also finding the correct platform, replying to messages and remembering why they entered the kitchen. We think that is a rather ambitious administrative burden for one human brain.

The Tile by Life360 Slim is the flatter, wallet-minded member of that anti-chaos club: a black Bluetooth tracker sold as a single pack, with an advertised range of up to 350 ft. It works through the Life360 app on iOS and Android, so it avoids the peculiar annoyance of a useful little gadget becoming an argument about which phone someone owns.

Its brief is nicely specific. The Tile Slim is listed for wallets, luggage tags and passports, and it includes phone-finder functionality. That makes it less a grand surveillance system and more a compact contingency plan for the belongings that tend to disappear five minutes before leaving the house.

We picked it because daily carry is where tracker logic becomes least theoretical. A suitcase can go missing dramatically twice a year; a wallet can derail an ordinary Tuesday before breakfast. The UK product page also states a 2-year warranty for this black 1-pack, a reassuringly grown-up detail for an object designed to manage small personal disasters.

A normal mirror asks very little of us: stand there, look vaguely human, leave. The simplehuman Sensor Mirror Trio ST3038 has loftier ambitions. It caters for the mornings when one needs the broad overview, a closer check, and then the forensic investigation that only 10x magnification can provide.

We think this is a particularly sensible bit of bathroom extravagance. Rather than accumulating a standard mirror, a magnifying mirror and a small lamp that somehow lives beside the toothpaste, the white 20 cm ST3038 puts 1x, 5x and 10x magnification into one manually flipped unit. A built-in sensor switches on the light when a hand comes within 4 to 6 inches, because apparently even light switches now require a personal assistant.

The cleverer case lies in its lighting controls. Brightness adjusts continuously by touch from 100 to 800 lux, and there are settings described as full sunlight and true-to-life candlelight. Its 95 CRI, patterned micro-reflectors and surgical-grade LEDs are specified to deliver the full colour spectrum and disperse light evenly. That is a lot of engineering for checking a fringe, but bad lighting has launched a thousand regrettable mornings.

It is not the mirror for someone seeking a silent, uncharged slab of glass and no further discussion. The lithium-ion battery needs USB charging, taking approximately four to eight hours for a full charge, though it is rated for up to five weeks per charge. For a more deliberate makeup or grooming corner, that is reasonable faff rather than a domestic betrayal.

The Shashibo Shape Shifting Box addresses a peculiarly modern predicament: the hands want something to do while the brain is pretending to listen. A pen gets clicked into unemployment, a paperclip becomes office sculpture, and eventually somebody invents a magnetic cube with more than 100 possible forms. Fair enough.

Its panels fold and reconnect into geometric shapes, so it has more ambition than the average desk fidget and rather less practical purpose. That is precisely why we think it earns its place: it is a small, unnecessary object with an unusually convincing excuse for existing.

The construction is suitably built for repeated rearranging, using injection-moulded plastic and tear-resistant stickers. One cube offers the basic puzzle; several can be joined into larger magnetic structures, which is how an innocent diversion can acquire a collection habit and begin colonising a bookshelf.

There are, however, proper grown-up caveats amid the cheerful geometry. The manufacturer recommends it from age eight, warns about small parts, and says younger children need adult supervision. The instruction flyer also warns that its magnets may affect electronic devices and that it is not recommended for people with pacemakers. This is a toy with enough magnetic confidence to require boundaries.
