Samsung’s 50-inch The Frame LS03F takes a more domestically diplomatic route. It is a 4K television built around Art Mode, a Matte Display and a frame-like approach that acknowledges the radical idea that people may also own books, lamps and opinions about wallpaper.

We think this is the sensible centre of the The Frame proposition. Samsung also specifies Motion Xcelerator, while the panel refresh rate is 50Hz. That last number deserves a moment of grown-up honesty. The Frame’s biggest appeal is its ability to be a television without constantly looking like television; it is not positioned by this evidence as a high-refresh-rate sporting or gaming shrine.

The matte finish and Art Mode are what make the whole mildly extravagant premise land. A TV that can become part of the room is admittedly a very twenty-first-century solution to having bought a TV, but it is a good one. Add support for customisable bezels and optional mounting or stand accessories, and Samsung has made an unusually coherent object for homes where the lounge has to host films, guests, plants and at least one mysteriously ugly router.

The Gozney Roccbox exists for the point at which a normal oven pizza begins to feel like an administrative failure. One minute it is a harmless Friday-night plan; the next, someone is discussing hydration percentages while the garden furniture acquires a new job description.

We think the Roccbox makes a convincing case because it arrives as a properly specified outdoor pizza oven rather than a vague metal object with a heroic product photo. It has a stone floor, dense insulation, a rolling flame design, a built-in thermometer and propane gas firing as standard, with temperatures stated up to 500°C. The included professional-grade pizza peel is a notably civilised touch: pizza making already has enough opportunities to buy oddly shaped accessories.

Its gas burner detaches, and a separate detachable wood burner can be added for dual-fuel cooking. That gives the Roccbox a sensible split personality: propane for a more straightforward setup, wood as an optional route for people who regard additional fire management as part of the evening’s entertainment.

Portable needs its usual adult translation, however. The oven weighs just under 20kg unpackaged, and it is certified for outdoor use only in the UK and EU. This is garden equipment that can travel, not a lightweight prop to sling in the boot beside a picnic blanket. For buyers with an outdoor spot, realistic storage and a recurring pizza habit, it is a very well-considered bit of delicious domestic escalation.
