Round water bottles are one of those accepted bits of everyday nonsense. They are perfectly sensible on a kitchen counter, then become awkward little barrels once placed beside a laptop, notebook, lunch container, and the cable nest everyone insists they will sort out on Sunday. The memobottle A5 takes a more ruthless view: bags are mostly built for flat things, so the bottle should be flat too.

We think that is a clever enough premise to earn a place here. The A5 model holds 750 ml, yet its 243 x 148 mm face roughly follows the footprint implied by its name, with a 30 mm thickness. It is not trying to make water thrilling—thankfully, that department has already given us too many apps—but it makes the carrying part less absurd.

The practical appeal is especially clear for commutes and desk days. A bottle that can sit in the same broad layer as papers and devices offers a tidier packing proposition than a conventional cylinder occupying the middle of everything like it pays rent. At 170 g empty, the bottle itself does not add much weight before the water goes in.

There is also a pleasing restraint to the evidence-backed basics: BPA- and BPS-free Tritan plastic, a stainless steel lid, and a two-year manufacturing warranty for material and workmanship defects under normal use. The A5 is not the universal answer to drinking water. It is a very specific answer to carrying it among flat possessions, which is far more useful than pretending every object belongs in a cup-holder.
